Probably not as in 'possibly yes'.
And what's wrong with that?
What if a scientist decided that possibly or probably you shouldn't be allowed to breed and they sign papers that allow the government to forcibly remove your testicles? You trust scientists that much?
It would surprise me if they had to use such an archaic method considering this is the 21st century.

You've lost me now. You obviously have a personal problem with Dawkins & are simply trying to find any angle to attack him with.
I don't blame you, he's helped quite a lot of people to see just how stupid religion can be.
But to say that people 'believe' in memes because of 'teachings' of Dawkins shows that you have a fundamental (and quite possibly intentional) mis-understanding of the scientific method. You see it as just another religion no doubt.
A pity.

Surely if it were fake we would have been back a few more times by now, since it would be cheaper to go back if it were fake

You could argue that sexual selection is a form of eugenics, albeit natural & unplanned.
People are less likely to want to have sex with someone who is mentally disabled, thus we are using sexual selection (eugenics) to keep their numbers lower. If everyone found mentally disabled peope attractive, then after a while the world would be made up entirely of mentally disabled people.

They are analogous to genes, & genes are scientifically proven. The science of memetics is the study of how culture propogates. It isn't really a science in the same way that quantum mechanics is, but more in the same sense as psychology is. I suppose the answer you are looking for is therefore 'yes'.

The theory of relativity is proven beyond any reasonable doubt. Practical experiments have demonstrated classical, special and general relativity. So those who doubt it have a lot to answer for to be honest. One must wonder what exactly is said at these conventions, probably (and i'm only guessing) a lot of nit-picking.
An abstract concept such as memetics isn't so much a hyptothesis that needs to be tested & proven, but rather an analogy. In the case of memetics, it is an analogy that is used to compare the propogation of culture to the propogation of genes. It is a concept which is used in an attempt to quantize culture so that it can be more easily analysed & understood. So really there isn't anything that even needs to be proven, since an analogy only needs to serve an explanatory purpose.

Have any of you had the experience of listening to a Witness' sad story, and not being able to tell them, ITS BECAUSE YOU ARE IN A CULT!?
by BonaFide intonight i went out with some witnesses for coffee.
one is an elder, and the others are pioneers, etc.
two of them had a sad story of how other elders had treated them lately, and one talked about how the elders in her hall won't give her any assignments.

Scientific proof doesn't exist. Something can be proven beyond any reasonable doubt, but that's not really possible with an abstract concept like memes. Memes are basically just discreet quanta of information/practices that are transfered from person to person, no one disputes that culture propogates from person to person through the generations. What is up for debate is whether or not it's appropriate to label them under a single banner.
So really it's just a matter of semantics, not science really.
